Starman Tribute

This poem/song text is based on the song 'Starman' by David Bowie, see Youtube video below. After his passing I heard this song on the radio and sentences came bubbling up in my head. I finally finished it, and here it is for you all to enjoy :) <3

Didn't know what time it was

But the time had come

Death leaned back and took a sip of rum

The hound was eyeing him with eager fangs, waiting for the sign

Then the dark man did seem to fade

Coming back was a slow voice on a wave of light

Overcoming Doubts in 200 words

Have you ever thought you are not good enough?

Have you ever felt like you are not worth the air you breathe, the earth you walk on or the space you occupy?

Have you ever doubted yourself so much that it hurt your heart and trampled your soul?

Stop judging, stop overthinking, stop doubting.

All these thoughts will only bring you down, and cloud the way to your heart. They build an extra wall around your wishes, your dreams and your hopes.

Even if you don’t feel like it, there will always be a tomorrow; and each day, each memory, each mistake will allow you to grow.

Even If you don’t believe it right now, you will never fall down as deep as you have before, because you won’t let yourself. You have grown stronger.

Even if you don’t see it now, your future can and will be full of awesome things. Your future will be full of you, with all the ups and downs you have encountered and will encounter along the way.

250 Words About Honesty

This is one of the many mental exercises I like to do. I try to write the essence of a topic in a given amount of words. This time it was 250 words about honesty :)

If there's one thing I that I have learned over the last few tough years, it is that people should always be pure and honest to themselves and the others around them. Only then you will be able to be strong, overcome your insecurities, help others and live a meaningful and fulfilling life.

Be an inspiration to the people around you and tell the truth, be open about who you are, and don't be afraid of judgments. If they think it is appropriate to hurt you and show contempt, they are not worth of your trust and friendship. But before you know who your real friends are, you have to be honest and to be able to share parts of your life with them. Their response is an important part of it. They might be disappointed in you, or be angry with you, but the most important part is whether they are able to forgive you and continue the friendship. It can even deepen the feelings you have for one another.

One of the most wonderful things about the truth is that generally when you let your heart speak, the hearts of others tend to talk back. This way you can really make your world a better and more trustworthy place.

Never underestimate the power of being honest. It can make or break, hurt or heal. Most of all: it clears the sky and makes you realize who you should be spending time with.

Don’t be afraid of the truth.

* This is a Dutch piece I wrote with 1 Corinthians 13 in my mind. This is a piece of the Bible that always got my attention. 'De grootste van al is de liefde' ('The greatest of these is love') is also the sentence that is on my Granddad's grave.
